SEO measurement: rankings, Search Console and AI visibility

Before comparing two SEO reports, check what each number measures. A fixed keyword check, Google’s impression-based position and an AI mention describe different observations.

Investigate a surprising decline

Check freshness, missing checks, landing-page attribution and whether the provider changed its collection method. A reduced dataset can resemble a loss of visibility.

Use comparable country/device segments in Search Console and examine clicks and affected pages. Its API does not guarantee every row; warehousing cannot remove that source limitation.

Google result links and data collection

An intermediary result link can add destination-resolution work for a collector. It does not by itself change a page’s ranking or prove that a provider is currently inaccurate.

Ask for output evidence by result type and distinguish a documented fix from an architectural inference. A failure in SERP attribution does not establish a failure in a separate website crawler or backlink index.

AI reporting needs its own sample

Record full answers, prompt wording, engine and collection conditions. Separate a brand mention from a cited link, then measure visits and enquiries through your analytics workflow.

Keep the commercial outcome visible

Annotate campaigns and website changes. Compare qualified enquiries, booked work and contribution as well as clicks so a visibility report supports an operating decision.
